Listen, we’ve all been there- you send a text to someone and all you get back is a measly “hey.” Or even worse, just a series of emojis that don’t really say anything at all. You start to wonder- are they mad at me? Did I do something wrong? Am I being ghosted??? It’s enough to drive a person insane. And we definitely don’t want to become this person. So here are some tips on how to not be a dry texter.

1. Keep your messages short and sweet
No need to write a novel every time you text someone. Actually, that’ll probably just end up making you look slightly desperate. Instead, focus on saying something thoughtful or funny in as few words as possible. Also, if you reveal too much about yourself in one day, there’s no more mystery about you. Leave some for later so that he/she can remain excited about talking to you.
So next time you’re sending a text, resist the urge to ramble on. Keep it brief and cute : )
2. Use emojis to add personality
Another tip on how to not be a dry texter is to use EMOJIS!!!
Emojis can help to convey emotion and personality, two things that are often lacking in text-based communication. With them, it can sometimes be difficult to tell the tone of the other person. So sprinkling in a few emojis in your texts can actually be a great wat to spice up the conversation. Just don’t overdo it girl- too many emojis can be a bit annoying and chaotic, haha.

3. Ask questions!
Asking questions shows that you’re interested in the conversation and allows you to keep the conversation flowing. It also gives you a chance to get to know the person you’re talking to better. So next time you’re feeling like your texts are starting to sound dry, try asking a few questions. You might be surprised at how much more engaging your conversations become. Plus, people love talking about themselves! So whoever you’re texting would for sure be happy to answer your questions.

4. Use exclamation marks for enthusiasm
Dry texting is the worst. It’s like someone took all the fun and personality out of your words and left behind a bland, boring shell. But it doesn’t have to be that way! You can use exclamation marks to show enthusiasm and add some life to your texts. Just be careful not to overdo it, or you’ll end up looking like a crazy person, haha! But a few well-placed exclamation marks can go a long way towards making your texts more fun and engaging.
5. Radiate good vibes
No one wants to talk to a Debbie Downer all the time. If you don’t want to be that person, focus on radiating good vibes through your texts. It’s all about positivity and good energy. Use emojis, gifs, and exclamation points to show that you’re engaged in the conversation. Be playful and fun, and don’t be afraid to show your personality. That’s what makes texting so enjoyable in the first place.
6. Check your spelling and grammar
Nothing says “I don’t care” like a text full of typos and errors. So take the time to proofread your texts before you hit send. This shows that you want to communicate clearly and actually appreciate the time you get to text the other person.

7. Use sarcasm
If you’re looking to spice up your text game, adding a bit of sarcasm is a great way to do it. Sarcasm can add fun and flair to any conversation, and it’s a great way to keep things interesting. Just make sure that you don’t overdo it, or you could come across as insincere or even rude (that’s happened to me before, YIKES! Never again, haha). A little sarcasm goes a long way, so use it sparingly and appropriately.
8. Don’t just reply with one word
try not to just reply with one word. I know it sounds obvious, but it’s amazing how often we do it. If someone asks how your day is going, don’t just say “good.” Instead, tell them about the best part of your day or something funny that happened.
9. Send a video
Videos are a great way to show your personality and add some life to your texts. You can record yourself singing a song, cracking a joke, or just giving a quick update on what’s going on in your life. Plus, if you’re texting your crush, this is an awesome way to break the ice and get closer in a short amount of time.

10. Reply in a reasonable time frame
If you want to avoid being a dry texter, make sure to reply in a reasonable time frame. This doesn’t mean that you need to reply immediately, but you should try to respond within a few hours. Otherwise, your conversations will quickly become one-sided, and whoever you’re texting would soon lose interest. So yea! Don’t be afraid to reply fast. (I personally love it when the person I’m texting replies quick)
11. Add a GIF
One of the simplest ways to add a touch of fun and personality to your text messages: by adding a GIF. This is also personally my favorite! Whenever I run out things to say with my crush/texting partner, I just throw in a funny GIF that’s related to what we were just talking about. I swear, it always gets the conversation going again.
12. Avoid using ‘lol’ too much
Overusing “lol” can make you seem uninterested or unengaged in the conversation. So instead of littering your texts with constant “lols,” try to use other expressions of laughter, such as “LMAO” “hahaha,” or even just a crying laughing emoji.

13. Use their name
It sounds so simple, but adding someone’s name into the conversation can make all the difference. It makes the text feel more personal and intimate, like you’re having a conversation rather than just exchanging words on a screen. So next time your texts are getting dry, try adding your crush/texting partner’s name here and there. It might just be the key to breaking out of your dry-texting funk.
14. Send a voice message
What could be more personal than your own voice? Plus, voice messages are a great way to inject some fun into your texts. When you hear the other person’s voice, it can help you feel closer to them and make the conversation more enjoyable. And if you’re stuck in a boring text conversation, sending a funny voice message can liven things up!
15. Show them that you’re thinking about them
How to not be a dry texter? Show the person that you’re actually thinking about them. If you’re exchanging messages on Instagram, share with them a funny meme or reel and say: “this reminds me so much about you”, or “omg, this reminds me of the time that we went to [insert place]”
Plus, this is a great way to start a new conversation if your previous conversation had ended a while ago.

If you want to avoid being a dry texter, the key is to be unpredictable and exciting. The best way to do this is to keep your texts interesting and engaging. This means avoiding boring topics like the weather or what you had for dinner. Instead, focus on things that are more likely to get a reaction from the other person, such as funny stories or inside jokes.

17. Compliment them
I mean, who doesn’t love compliments? At the end of the day, everyone likes to feel loved and cherished. So next time you’re texting the person you like, you could say something along the lines of “I really liked your outfit today”, “I love the way you make me feel”, or “you’re really good at that thing you do.”
Compliments make people feel special, and they’ll be more likely to respond to your texts if they know you appreciate them.
18. Flirt a little
Texting is the perfect place for playful banter and flirting. So be bold and make the first move by sending a flirty message.! Compliment your crush’s sense of humor, ask about their day, or send a playful emoji. And who knows, you might even end up with a date. So go ahead and text away, and let the flirting begin ; )

And if all else fails, send a cute selfie ; ) I’m sure whoever you’re texting would more than appreciate it.

20. Tell a story
If you’re wondering how to not be a dry texter, the answer is to ‘tell a story’.
Everytime I’ve enjoyed a conversation with someone through texts is when that person is amazing at telling stories. I remember texting this guy who literally talks about his day like he’s writing a hook for an essay. LOL! His texts are far from boring, instead, it’s always super intriguing and leaves me wanting to know more about him.
21. Don’t be afraid to be a little silly
If you’re naturally a silly person, don’t be afraid to cracks jokes or be a little goofy over text. It’s also important not to take yourself too seriously. Send a funny meme, start a game of would you rather, or ask an open-ended question that will spark an interesting discussion. Whatever it is, just make sure you’re showing your personality and not holding back for fear of judgement.
