Here’s everything you need to know before attending your first frat party!

What Do You Do At A Frat Party?
If you’ve never been to a fraternity party before, I’m sure you’re wondering why it’s so hyped and what really goes down in those gigantic frat houses. Well… just imagine loud music, sweaty drunk college students, beer pong, people making out, red cups scattered on the floor, long bathroom lines, and hot guys (sometimes). And so, what do you do there you may ask? The short answer is, you party till you drop!

Are Frat Parties Open To Everyone?
You don’t have to be a sorority girl to attend parties hosted by fraternities. However, in most cases, they’ll have a “bouncer” (a.k.a some random frat boy) at the gate of their frat house checking to see your student I.D. and monitoring entry. The harsh reality is though, girls with pretty privilege usually get in easier. Ugh, I know it’s super annoying. So if you’re a guy, you might want to make friends with some frat guys to get easier entry into these parties.
Frat Party Outfits
If you’re wondering what to wear at a frat party, don’t overthink it! A cute crop top and a pair of shorts would work perfectly fine. In the wintertime, wear a jean jacket and flannel shirt to keep warm before and after the party. Once you get to the venue, take it off and tie it around your waist!
Need some ideas? Here are the basics I always go for:
1. Spaghetti Strap Tube Top
I have this top in literally 5 different colors haha! It’s such a versatile top that you can wear to almost any event or party. Pair it with a cute denim jacket, skinny jeans, or basically anything and you’ll still look super good!
2. Off Shoulder Blouse
If you’re a bit self-conscious about showing too much skin, this blouse could be something you might like. It covers your shoulder but still shows a bit of skin. After a night of partying, show up to brunch with this same top and you’ll still look perfect for the occasion, haha!
3. Classy Silk Tank Top
You can never go wrong with a gorgeous silk tank top….Especially if you want to stand out from other girls at the party, lol! Silk tops just scream “bougie but cute”, “I drink red wine, how bout you?”, “I’m better than you”, and “goddess energy”.
4. Bow Tie Crop Top
Okay! This is quite revealing I know. But it could be such a look for parties in the summertime! It sort of looks like a bikini top, but if you pair it with high-waisted jeans or shorts, I promise you’ll turn heads at every single frat party, sis!
5. Black or White Basic Canvas Sneakers
Don’t ever wear flip-flops or sandals to a party. Never! Your toes would literally be broken by the end of the night. I personally like to wear dark-colored sneakers (black), or a pair of dirty white sneakers that I don’t care that much about anymore. You’ll get stepped on like crazy at these crowded college parties, so dress prepared!
What Are Some Common Frat Party Themes?

Normally, you can show up to frat parties with any outfit you want. But if it’s a themed party, you might want to check the dress code so you won’t be denied entry. Here are some common party themes hosted by fraternities:
- Decades party (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s )
- Pajamas party
- Neon night
- Jazz night
- Hip Hop night
- Y2K night
- Graffiti Party
- Ugly Sweaters party
- Devils and Angels
- Sexy Nerd party
- Masquerade party
- Rock n’ Roll
- Denim themed party
- Rave rager
- Foam Party
Things You Must Know Before Going!
Your first partying experience in college can either be super amazing or extremely chaotic, there’s no in-between haha. To make sure that it’s not the latter, here are some things you should know before heading out to party all night.
Stay Together With Your Friends
Never leave your friends behind. I REPEAT! Never leave your friends behind at a frat party, especially if you are all ✨drunk✨
Stay together and check on each other constantly. If your friend is not feeling well, take care of her and make sure that she’s hydrated and safe. Parties can get wild and hectic at times and people can lose each other because of how crowded it is. So make sure your phone is fully charged so that you’ll be able to make calls if needed.
Don’t Be On Your Phone 24/7
Not every single party moment needs to be posted on Instagram or Snapchat. Live in the moment and truly enjoy each second with your friends! Yes, sure it can be nice to look back at these memories years from now and reminisce about the “good ole’ college days”. But there’s no need to take a million videos of your night!
Challenge yourself to put your phone in your pocket the entire night and immerse in the present moment instead. Trust me, you’ll have so much more fun. Like, GENUINE fun. Not just pretending to have fun for social media.
Know Your Limits
Yes, it’s important to party hard. But please make sure to know your limits and not push yourself because of peer pressure. When you’re in the moment, it’s very easy to forget about the amount of alcohol you’re consuming and even blackout if you’re not careful. Hangovers are not fun! Especially if you have an 8 am class the next day. So, please chill out on the drinking haha!
Keep An Eye On Your Drink
Never leave your drink unattended! There have been so many instances of people being roofied at college parties and it’s so unfortunate. If you accidentally leave your drink somewhere, don’t come back for it later, just leave it there. No matter how good that drink was, it’s definitely not worth the nightmare of being drugged!
Also, don’t accept drinks from random people. Make sure you pour your own, or at least keep an eye on the person who’s doing the pouring.
It’s Okay To Say No
Lastly, it’s okay to say no! Never feel pressured to do things you don’t want to do just because others are doing it. If you don’t want to make out with a guy, don’t! Not feeling like chugging 10 cups of jungle juice? Then don’t! And if you really can’t take another shot, say no!
Do what you feel comfortable with. No one can judge you for your decisions! And if they do, let them. It’s none of your business. As long as you’re not hurting anyone, you deserve to do what’s best for you.
